My certifications and how they actually help
Here are all the certifications I have and how they allow me to help and provide better value. I don’t believe in getting certifications just for the sake of getting them. I got these because I truly believed they would help me better myself as a coach so I could help others.
Kilo Level 1 Coach (May 2024)
From Kilo Strength Society
Here I learned:
- How to use different “ingredients” in a workout (sets, reps, tempo, and rest) to create well-rounded training programs that minimize injury risk. (Program Design Course)
- How to write optimal and efficient long-term training programs. (Periodization course)
- How to write programs that improve specific training weaknesses. This is how I make sure clients are well-rounded with movement. (Strength Ratios Course)
Active Life Immersion Course (Mar 2021)
Certificate of Competency
Here I learned:
- How to assess clients to find out what exactly is causing an injury.
- How to determine if it’s something coaches can help with, or whether to refer to a doctor or physical therapist.
- How to design training plans for tendon health, muscle/joint limitations, and returning to the gym.
Precision Nutrition Level 1 (Nov 2020)
A comprehensive nutrition course.
Here I learned:
- Scientific nutrition fundamentals.
- How to coach nutrition in a sustainable and approachable way.
- Using a behavior-first approach to coach nutrition
CrossFit Level 2 Certification (Jul 2019)
This is a CrossFit-specific course, but I gained a ton of in-person experience here. My certification actually expired in June 2024. I decided not to renew it because I don’t work in a CrossFit affiliate anymore!
Here I learned:
- How to teach, see, and correct foundational movements (squat, deadlift, pull-up, press, etc) in real time. The context here was being able to see and fix problems in a fast-paced class environment.
- How to create effective and well-balanced general fitness programs.
